Mexico’s 2025 Holiday Spending Shifts Online, Deloitte Finds

Consumer spending in Mexico during the 2025 holiday season is shifting toward digital platforms as shoppers adopt more rational and planned purchasing behaviors. According to the Deloitte 2025 Holiday Shopping Study, 33% of Mexican consumers plan to conduct between 21% and 55% of their seasonal spending exclusively through online channels.

The study, which surveyed over 1,500 individuals across Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, and Costa Rica, points to the growing maturity of e-commerce in the region. In Mexico, however, traditional retail formats remain relevant: 27% of respondents plan to shop at department stores, while 19% expect to make purchases at apparel retailers.

Inflation and economic uncertainty continue to shape consumer behavior. The report shows that Mexican shoppers view the current economic environment as less favorable than in 2024. As a result, 51% of consumers plan to keep their holiday spending at levels similar to last year, while 29% expect to spend less.

To offset financial pressure, consumers are emphasizing early planning and price sensitivity:

  • Early purchasing: 39% of consumers began their holiday shopping in the first week of December.

  • Promotional events: 24% took advantage of sales campaigns such as El Buen Fin and Black Friday to secure discounts and ensure product availability.

Despite a more cautious outlook, the volume of gift-giving remains relatively stable. In Mexico, 32% of consumers plan to buy between four and five gifts during the season. However, average ticket sizes have adjusted, with most shoppers spending between US$31 and US$100 per purchase, depending on the category.

Across Latin America, similar patterns are emerging. Some 34% of consumers in the surveyed countries also plan to purchase four to five gifts, with technology, perfumery and premium fashion ranking among the most popular categories.
