Maker Lab – School of Engineering

Unleash your entrepreneurial spirit and ignite your inner innovator—build, invent, and test your own creations in our hands-on prototyping space.

Hand tools, power tools, and a whole suite of machines that are part of a new wave of “personal making”—3D printers, laser cutters, and circuit board fabricators—are all at your disposal. The Maker Lab is the only place on campus where any SCU student, faculty, or staff member can be quickly trained to use the tools and a team of students from multiple departments can easily work together.

Congratulations to the winners of the Annual Design- Make- Sell challenge!

This year’s challenge was to design a compelling product relating to SCU’s annual Vintage Santa Clara [VSC] event. Participating teams had to submit a proposal/pitch of their product for Phase A. Four teams were then selected to move to Phase B, which consisted of production of their product in the Maker Lab and sales of their product in the Campus Bookstore.

Teams used a variety of tools in the Maker Lab including, the ShopBot, miter saw, laser cutters, and 3D printers.

Congratulations to the winning team of Brian Wiebe, Rachel Lee, Leo Morris, Jilliene Torres-Rivera, Matthew Becker, and Lauren Torres-Rivera for their Charcuterie board design.

Honorable mentions were awarded to Sean Wu, Jonathan Felix, Jessica Simmons, Ryan Pool, and Paul Li for their SCU inspired picture frame; to Elise Murugasu, Harumy Miura, Oliver Goodall, and Yaying Lin for their wine coaster; and Max Kaufmann, Sam Anderson, and Hannah Hoeptner for their shot glass.
