Home Depot online sales grew at more than twice the rate of total sales growth in its fiscal Q2, which ended Aug. 3, 2025.
Total Home Depot sales in Q2 increased to $45.28 billion. That’s 4.9% year-over-year growth compared to Q2 2024, when total Home Depot sales reached $43.18 billion. Meanwhile, comparable sales increased 1% globally and 1.4% in the U.S.
President and CEO Edward Decker said SRS Distribution, which Home Depot acquired more than a year ago, has exceeded its expectations. Home Depot is now “excited” about its pending acquisition of GMS, a distributor of specialty building products that include drywall, ceilings and steel framing related to remodeling and construction projects.
“This acquisition will add a highly complementary adjacent vertical to SRS’ business with differentiated capabilities, product categories and customer relationships,” Decker told investors on the retailer’s Q2 earnings call. “It will also broaden SRS’ distribution footprint across the U.S. and Canada.”
He said SRS will have a network of more than 1,200 locations, more than 3,500 sales associates and a fleet of nearly 8,000 trucks capable of making “tens of thousands” of job-site deliveries a day.
“Additionally, GMS will be additive to our organic efforts to better serve Pros working on complex projects, enabling us to offer a deeper and broader assortment of interior building products and services as well as additional fulfillment options,” Decker said.
The Home Depot Inc. ranks No. 4 in the Top 2000 Database. The Digital Commerce 360 database ranks North America’s largest online retailers by their annual ecommerce sales. Home Depot is also the top-ranked retailer in the Top 2000’s Hardware & Home Improvement category.
Home Depot online sales Q2
In Q2, Home Depot online sales increased 12% year over year. Executives attributed the growth, in part, to faster fulfillment.
“Our faster delivery speeds are resonating with customers and driving greater engagement in sales,” said William Bastek, executive vice president of merchandising.
Senior executive vice president Ann-Marie Campbell said Home Depot now has its fastest delivery speeds across the greatest number of products in company history. That includes both same-day and next-day delivery.
“We are seeing a double-digit lift in spend with customers who utilize faster delivery options as they return more frequently to shop in stores and online,” Campbell said. “This is all a result of our efforts to ship from best location, which uses machine learning models to determine the optimal delivery mode to maximize speed and efficiency.”
Home Depot also opened three new stores in the quarter, bringing its total count to 2,353 and giving it more locations from which it can ship online orders.
Bastek added that Home Depot is continuing to invest in improving its search functionality and leveraging AI. On top of that, it’s focusing on improving its “buy it again” capabilities, he said, so that customers can “easily and conveniently reorder product regardless of where the original purchase occurred.”
Home Depot’s success drivers in Q2
Additionally, 12 of Home Depot’s 16 merchandising departments posted positive comparable sales, according to Bastek. At the same time, comparable average order values (AOVs) increased 1.4% while comparable transactions decreased 0.4%, he said.
“The growth in our comp average ticket primarily reflects a greater mix of higher-ticket items, inflation from core commodity categories, including lumber and copper and a modest decrease in promotional activity relative to prior year,” Bastek said.
Comparable big-ticket transactions, which Home Depot defines as those of $1,000 or more, increased 2.6% year over year in Q2. Home Depot set a new company sales record for battery-powered tools in Q2, Bastek said, not specifying the amount.
Home Depot seeks to upgrade order management
Campbell said Home Depot’s order management “brings together systems and processes that enable us to effectively capture, modify, deliver and offer post-sale support for Pro orders.”
She said the company still has “work to do” in improving it but has “already deployed a number of benefits.”
In some markets, she said, Home Depot can reserve inventory, modify orders before it sends them out for fulfillment, and invoice upon delivery. She gave an example that Home Depot can “quickly and easily” change an order to go to a job site rather than a store.
