BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – A Bryan man is facing theft and property tampering charges after investigators say he stole more than $13,500 worth of tools from a construction company’s work truck parked at a local hotel.
Hilario Delgado Jr., 39, was charged with theft of property valued between $2,500 and $30,000 and tampering with identifying marks on property, according to court documents filed in Brazos County.
Police say sometime between 9:30 p.m. on March 20 and 6:50 a.m. on March 21, 2026, someone entered the unlocked tool storage compartments of a work truck belonging to a construction and engineering company, parked at the Tru by Hilton hotel on Austin’s Colony Parkway.
The two victims reported dozens of power tools, socket sets, and specialty equipment stolen, totaling $13,500.
On March 26, a Bryan officer stopped a vehicle driven by Delgado. Delgado told the officer the tools inside the vehicle were stolen. He was taken into custody on unrelated charges, and his vehicle was towed for a search.
Police say Delgado waived his rights, and after initially denying taking the tools, he then changed his account, saying he had taken tools from work trucks with unlocked toolboxes, that he acted alone, and that the most recent theft occurred a few days earlier near Finfeather Road.
Delgado also told investigators he avoided pawn shops because stolen property could be traced by serial number, and that he sold items for cash instead.
A search of Delgado’s vehicle turned up several items that the victims confirmed were stolen from their truck. Investigators also found a Digital Manifold Pressure Tester with its serial number scratched off and the label partially torn away.
License plate reader data placed Delgado’s vehicle near the hotel at 3:08 a.m. on March 21 — within the timeframe of the theft.
